In opener, T'jacks fall to Yakima By KEVIN GOFF YAKIMA, Wash. -- The Southern Oregon Timberjacks forgot to pack their offense for Sunday's Northwest League baseball game against the Yakima. Yakima took Game 1 of a five-game set with the Southern Division-leading Timberjacks, 6-1, limiting Southern Oregon to seven hits. Josh Dalton started things off early for Yakima with a double. After moving to third on Franklyn German's wild pitch, Dalton came home on an RBI double from Lamont Matthews, staking the Bears to a 1-0 lead. The Timberjacks rallied in the third when Matt Forbes singled and moved to second on a wild pitch. Forbes stole third and was driven home on a Kirk Asche RBI single, pulling Southern Oregon even at 1-1. Lamont Matthews led off the fourth with his 11th home run of the season and John Rozich singled to drive in a run and extend the Yakima lead to 3-1. Cliff Wren added a solo home run to lead off the eighth for the Bears, and Rozich tripled and came around to score on a Jorge Soto error to up the lead to 6-1. The Timberjacks couldn't muster anymore offense for German, sending him to his third loss of the season. Forbes led the way for Southern Oregon with three hits in four at-bats. Jamie Porter went 2-for-3. The two teams square off for Game 2 at 7:05 tonight. The Timberjacks hold a 2 game lead over Portland in the Southern Division of the Northwest League standings.
