He passed away peacefully into God's hands in the early hours of April 19, 2015 at his home in Klamath Falls, Ore., at the age of 72. He was surrounded by the love of his wife, who happens to be his high school sweetheart, Dorothy “Horton” Herbstruth and his special mother in-law Allene Horton, his precious daughter, Charymane Beskow and his son Todd Herbstruth and grandson Joshua Hendrix who were also his fishing buddies. Dick’s family moved from Billings to Central Point, Ore. in 1957. Dick went to Crater High School where he met his wife Dorothy before graduating in 1960. While their courtship ended before graduation, Dick and Dorothy found their fate 16 years later and were married in Medford, Ore. in 1976 and celebrated their 39th wedding anniversary on Feb. 15, 2015. Their life together was full of love for each other. Before Dick and Dorothy found their fate, Dick was married to Anne Lofland with whom he had his two sons, Todd and Troy. In 1960 after Dick graduated high school, he joined the U.S. Navy and served eight years on the USS Mona Kea, a destroyer that took him to Vietnam, Japan, Korea, the Philippines, and Pearl Harbor. After his eight-year enlistment, Dick joined the Naval Reserves, where he served another twelve years before retiring in 1980. While in the Reserves, he worked for U.S. West in Medford, Ore., before transferring to Klamath Falls in 1989, where he retired from Qwest Phone Co. on Dec. 7, 2010 after working for thirty years. Dick loved hunting, fishing, camping, and taking road trips in his motor home with his wife Dorothy and pets Kandy, Sheree, and Buffy. Dick and his wife loved to go snow skiing, snowmobiling, and sand railing. Survivors include, his wife and sweetheart, Dorothy Herbstruth of Klamath Falls; daughter, Charymane of Klamath Falls; son, Todd Herbstruth of Medford; son and daughter in-law, Troy and Rochelle Kadin of Norco, Calif.; grandsons, Joshua Hendrix of Klamath Falls and Nathan Kadin of Norco, Calif. and granddaughter Lilly Kadin of Norco, Calif. Dick was preceded in death by his parents, George and Frances Herbstruth. A public visitation will be held at 1:00 p.m. Saturday April 25, 2015 at Eternal Hills Funeral Home located at 4711 Highway 39 in Klamath Falls, Ore. Funeral services will be held at 12:00 p.m. Monday April 27, 2015 at Lighthouse Family Worship Center located at 3500 Arrowhead Dr. in Medford, Ore. Interment will follow the service at 2:00 p.m. at Eagle Point National Cemetery in Eagle Point. Donations can be made to the Klamath Animal Shelter at 4240 Washburn Way Klamath Falls, Ore. 97603. Eternal Hills Funeral Home is handling the arrangements.
