Mazama has best draw for mat district If the Skyline Conference district wrestling seedings are any indication, Phoenix's long string of district championships will be in jeopardy at the two-day event. The competition at Mazama High in Klamath Falls begins at 11 a.m. both Friday and Saturday. The Pirates have won seven straight conference titles and 17 of the past 19, but they enter the meet with only two top seeds -- Tyler McCarty at 130 pounds and Mark Williams at 145. Host Mazama, with four No. 1 seeds and six No. 2s, is being tabbed as the pre-meet favorite. But Phoenix coach Harry Mondale isn't conceding anything at this point. "Our string is in jeopardy every year," said Mondale. "Somebody has to beat us first. You can write everything you want on paper." Mondale's squads have been known to peak at the right time, with 18 conference championships and five state titles to his credit. "Everything we do during the season, as far as I'm concerned, is a practice session," said Mondale. "From here on in, it's like final exams."
