Oregon Road Conditions & Cams Email Story to a Friend April 6, 2005 Phoenix outlasts North Valley in 26-run slugfest Skyline Baseball MERLIN — North Valley had a breakout offensive game. The problem was, so did Phoenix. Phoenix scored five runs in both the fifth and sixth innings and defeated the Knights, 14-12, Tuesday in Skyline Conference baseball. "We haven’t put up any runs all year," said North Valley coach Jeff Uskoski. "It’s frustrating. We just fell apart." Phoenix (5-1, 1-0 Skyline) seemed to be in a dire situation when it had no runners on and two outs in the fifth inning. But No. 9 hitter Aaron Decker, a thorn for the Knights throughout, ignited a five-run rally with a single as Phoenix tied it, 9-9. Advertisement One inning later, the Pirates busted it open. Daniel Ritchie singled, and Decker was hit by a pitch, setting up a two-run double by Dustin Smith. Brenton Ferguson then reached on a fielder’s choice, and John Goldberg got on on an error, and they both scored on Chad Walker’s double. Walker would score on a Robert Woodward single. Phoenix’s Smith was 5-for-5 with three runs and two RBIs, and Decker (three runs), Walker (two RBIs) and Woodward (two RBIs) each had three hits. Tim Stickler and Matt Turner were each 3-for-5 and drove in three runs for North Valley (1-7, 0-3 Skyline).
