Six people were in the car when it crashed. More than $15,000 has been raised for a juvenile girl fighting for her life in a Portland hospital after a Central Point crash earlier this week. Kallie Michaelis — one of six high school-aged passengers who were in a Honda Accord sedan that crashed into a tree earlier this week — was life-flighted to OHSU Hospital in Portland “in very critical condition” with serious head, face and neck injuries, according to a GoFundMe crowdfunding campaign organized Thursday by Amie Carlson of Central Point for the teen’s family. As of shortly after noon Friday, the campaign — which included a photo of the vehicle involved along with a soccer portrait and several family photos of Michaelis — had raised $15,696 from 179 donors. Donations will help the family with “exorbitant medical expenses” and lost wages for Michaelis’ parents while they support her in the hospital. “This family needs our help and prayers in a very big way,” Carlson’s page states. The Honda and its six occupants crashed into the tree about 1:10 p.m. Tuesday near the intersection of Hazel and North Sixth streets in Central Point, according to an earlier news report . Neither Central Point police nor the Jackson County Serious Traffic Accident Reconstruction team have released further details about the crash, such as whether the passengers were wearing seatbelts; however, the sedan had six occupants but was equipped with seatbelts for only five passengers.
