Man drowns after boat capsizes in upper Rogue River Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Jun. 15, 2015 at 6:17 PM Posted Jun. 15, 2015 at 6:17 PM » Social News TRAIL — A 38-year-old man drowned after a boat carrying him capsized on the Rogue River near the Cole Rivers fish hatchery below Lost Creek Lake. According to Capt. Rick Lowe, a paramedic with Jackson County Fire District 4, first responders received the report of a water rescue after a boat overturned at 2:54 p.m. in the river near Cole M. Rivers Drive.  More generally, Lowe described the incident location as upriver between Casey State Park and the fish hatchery. According to numerous dispatch reports at the time of the incident, once the man was brought to shore near the Highway 62 bridge over the Rogue River, CPR was attempted. Lowe was unable to say what type of boat or raft was involved, or other parties involved in the incident. He could confirm, however, that the victim wasn't wearing a life jacket. “From what I hear he was not able to swim and not wearing a life jacket,” Lowe said. "The outcome probably would’ve been a little different if he’d had a life jacket on." Shaun Richards, search and rescue coordinator for Jackson County Sheriff's Office, was en route to the scene when reached by the Mail Tribune Monday evening. He could only confirm the fatality.  More information from the sheriff's department was expected to be released later tonight or Tuesday. The man's identity will be released once next of kin is notified, Richards said.
