Police say Tracy Marie Greenfield, 33, wrote checks under false names, drawing on the account of an elderly woman she used to take care of. Greenfield, of the 600 block of Applegate Street, was charged Friday with first-degree aggravated theft, unlawful use of a computer, first-degree theft, forgery and criminal mistreatment and two counts of identity theft. If convicted, she faces a maximum prison sentence of 10 years and a $250,000 fine. Medford police arrested Greenfield Thursday afternoon after serving a search warrant at her home. In addition to the personal computer allegedly used to fabricate forgeries, officers seized many of the home’s furnishings believed to have been purchased with forged checks. Confiscated items included bedroom furniture, kitchen appliances, bathroom accessories, linens, draperies, dog kennels and pet supplies, digital video discs, a home gym ensemble and a paper shredder, according to police reports. "We even took the garbage disposal," said Medford police Lt. Tim George. Advertisement Detectives started investigating the case Monday after receiving information that someone was stealing from the checking account of a woman living in a local retirement facility. The trail led to Greenfield, who had been a personal caregiver for the woman, George said. Approximately $9,000 had been stolen from the woman’s account since December, George added. "It’s another example of what can happen when people with bad intentions get ahold of your account numbers," George said. "Know who you’re trusting." Greenfield placed the woman’s checking account number onto computer-generated checks and passed them off under false names, George said. She also used the account number to make car payments, George added. Investigators are continuing to examine the theft’s extent and have not determined how much the stolen merchandise was worth, George said. Police also cited Greenfield’s roommate, 33-year-old Tamara Lynn Biles, for first-degree theft. She was not arrested. After hearing the charges against her Friday in Jackson County Circuit Court, Greenfield was released on her own recognizance.
