Local report Local figure skaters place fifth at district Nine figure skaters from the RRRink in Medford earned a combined 17 trophies during the District 13 Championships Feb. 13-14 in Portland at the Lloyd Center. Becky Hutson, 10, paced the local contingent's effort with three first-place trophies, while 13-year-old Noah Thacker added two first-place trophies as the RRRink skaters finished fifth in the district. Other top efforts came from Shawn Haggard, 13, with one second-place trophy; Alexa Linden, 3, with one first-place trophy; Scott Linden, 9, with one second-place trophy; Veronica Morss, 6, with one first- and two second-place trophies; Lynette Park, 10, with two second-place trophies; Shannon Proctor, 6, with one first-place trophy; and Raynie Strayer, 9, with one first- and one third-place trophy. Russell, Coe key Oregon softball team Eagle Point sophomore Joey Russell and Medford freshman Missy Coe each scored one run and drove in another to lead 25th-ranked Oregon to a 5-0 softball win over Utah State on Sunday in the UNLV Classic. The Ducks (6-3) completed the three-day tournament tied for third. Coe caught all seven innings behind the plate Sunday for the Ducks, who also topped Bowling Green (6-0), Wisconsin (5-0) and UNLV (12-5) in the tournament. Coe was 3-for-4 with three RBIs in the first game of the tourney, and went the distance as catcher in a 4-2 loss to Hawaii, driving in both Oregon runs on a 1-for-4 effort.
