Crater High senior chosen Miss Rogue Valley By CLEVE TWITCHELL Allison Pallotta, 18, a senior at Crater High School in Central Point, is Miss Rogue Valley 2000. She was crowned at the conclusion of the Miss Rogue Valley Scholarship Pageant Saturday night at the Craterian Ginger Rogers Theater in Medford. Pallotta also won the pageant's talent award with her vocal rendition of the song "On My Knees." Daughter of Mitch and Julie Pallotta of Jacksonville, she plans to attend Oregon State University and hopes to become a physical therapist. First runner-up was Candice Coots, 17, a senior at Eagle Point High School; second runner-up, Tanya Lunt, 19, of Medford, a freshman at Southern Oregon University in Ashland; and third runner-up, Karlie Friesen, a senior at North Medford High School. The pageant also gave a nonfinalist talent award to two contestants who tied for that honor, Kari Coldwell and Lauren Vander Lind. Coldwell, 19, of Ashland, a student at both SOU and Rogue Community College, sang "I'd Give My Life For You" from "Miss Saigon," while Vander Lind, 18, a senior at Ashland High School, performed a cello solo. Talent counted for 40 percent of each contestant's score, with 30 percent based on an interview with the judges, 15 percent on evening gown appearance and 15 percent for physical fitness. As the new Miss Rogue Valley, Pallotta wins a $1,500 college scholarship and the right to represent the Rogue Valley at the Miss Oregon Pageant in Seaside in July. Coots wins a $1,000 scholarship; Lunt, $750; and Friesen, $500. Each of the five nonfinalists receives a $400 scholarship. Besides impressing the judges, Pallotta was an audience favorite, earning loud applause from the near-capacity Craterian crowd.
