The auction, which will be held at the district office in Medford, is closed to the public because of concerns it will be disrupted. The timber sales call for cutting some 30 million board feet of timber on more than 4,000 acres. The average diameter of trees cut for the commercial harvest will be 14.3 inches. Overall, 9.1 miles of new road will be constructed and 29 miles of road will be decommissioned. The sales include: Scattered Apples in Williams Valley, 3.7 million board feet covering 2,600 acres. 516 acres will be commercially thinned, 107 acres selectively cut, 1,960 acres treated non-commercially. One-tenth mile of new road will be built, 6.2 miles of road removed. Lower Big Butte, Butte Falls area, 5 million board feet covering 5,200 acres. 745 acres will be commercially thinned, 135 acres selectively cut, 30 acres regeneration harvest (partially clear-cut), 3,000 acres treated non-commercially. .3 mile of new road, 5.4 miles of road removal. Ferris Bugman, Applegate Valley, 5.5 million board feet covering 3,700 acres. 1,207 acres commercially thinned, 27 acres regeneration cut, 21 acres right-of-way clearing, 1,540 acres noncommercial work. 6.5 miles of new roads, 7.1 miles of road removal. Deer Lake, Lake Creek drainage, 10.2 million board feet covering 7,399 acres. 807 acres commercially thinned, 93 acres regeneration cut, 74 acres selectively cut, 623 acres of noncommercial work. 2.2 miles of permanent road, 1.3 miles of temporary road and 9 miles of road removal. Bear Pen, northwest of Glendale, 6 million board feet covering 992 acres. 138 acres commercially thinned, 207 acres regeneration cut, 64 acres overstory removed, 583 acres non-commercial work. .1 miles of temporary road built, 1.3 miles of road removed.
