Richard "Dick" Paul Holcom Sunday Mar 5, 2017 at 2:00 AM June 12, 1930 - Febnruary 26, 2017 Dick Holcom passed away peacefully February 26, 2017 as the result of a stroke. He was born June 12, 1930 in Wagner, South Dakota. He married Genevieve Neis March 10, 1951 in Atlanta, Georgia and the two had been happily married for 56 years when she passed away in 2007. Together they had four children, Rick Holcom and wife, Diane of Medford; Brad Holcom of Salem; Kathy Murray and husband, Bill of Portland; and Susan Triantafyllides and husband, Dimitri of Charlotte, North Carolina. In addition he is survived by seven grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and a brother, Ron Holcom who lives in Gresham. Dick served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1953 during the Korean War. Afterward they moved to Grand Forks, North Dakota where he earned a master degree in business and accounting, and received his CPA license. He took a job in Portland, Oregon for the accounting firm of Haskins & Sells where he worked for 10 years. He was offered the position as controller for Harry & David in Medford in 1968. He moved his family to Medford, worked for the company for 10 years, and retired as VP of Finance. After that he opened his own business consulting and CPA practice in Medford specializing in physicians and their practices for another 10 years, retiring in 1993. He had a very keen mind, was very good at making business decisions for his clients, and helped them become very successful. He has resided at the Rogue Valley Manor for the last 11 years. His hobbies included playing golf, micro-trains and building elaborate railroad designs, and playing gin rummy, but most of all he enjoyed traveling. He also served in Kiwanis, Rotary, and was a child advocate for CASA for about three years. He was very generous and compassionate and really loved kids but was especially excited when he saw his grandchildren. Dick also got to know many people in the valley over the last 49 years and has many friends. Dick is on to the next venture under the loving hands and guidance of our Lord and Savior, and now reunited with his lovely wife. A wonderful husband, father, grandfather, and friend, he will be missed. The family especially wants to thank those individuals at the RV Manor who cared for him with love and compassion over the past few years. They all said he had a wonderful smile, contagious laugh, and bigger-than-life personality. Dick will lie in peace next to Gen at Eagle Point National Cemetery. There will be a service in his honor at 11:30 a.m. Friday, March 10, 2017 at the Rogue Valley Manor, Plaza Deschutes Room with a celebration to follow. Contributions in his honor may be made to CASA of Jackson County.
