Grants Pass man takes daughters at gunpoint from state employee The Associated Press ROSEBURG - A father kidnapped his three daughters from a state employee at gunpoint Wednesday and then used a state van as a getaway car, police said. Brian Christine, 28, of Grants Pass pulled a gun at a rest area off Interstate 5 in Douglas County, said Sgt. Rick Carlton, an Oregon State Police spokesman. Christine then stole the vehicle being driven by the Services to Children and Families employee and later transferred the girls, ages 3, 4 and 6, into a white Suburban with an unknown license number, Carlton said. Christine's wife was at the scene, but was not armed, said Lt. Gregg Hastings, OSP spokesman. Hastings said no other children were in the state vehicle when the kidnapping occurred. The employee was not injured. Police continued to search for the children Wednesday night. The abduction followed a just-completed visitation at SCF's branch office in Grants Pass, and the children were being returned to their foster home, said Patricia Feeny, an agency spokeswoman. A year ago Tuesday, SCF workers took the children into custody. At least one of the three children was hospitalized for malnutrition, she said. The Christines were featured in a four-part series on child abuse that was published in The Grants Pass Daily Courier last week. On a Web site www.governmentchildtheft.com, Brian Christine said he and his wife decided to quit their jobs in 1998, sell their home and live on the road. They converted a bus into their home and settled in Grants Pass. "On July 31 (2000), the unthinkable happened. The local police backed by SCF workers surrounded our motorhome and didn't leave until they had what they wanted - our three daughters," the Web site reads.
