The review, which covered Jordan's performance for 2011, resulted in glowing grades in every category, including job knowledge, skills, planning, leadership and customer service. Following his review, he is eligible for a salary bump on July 1 that would raise his annual salary to more than $200,000. "In all my years in public service, I have not encountered anyone with the general knowledge and capacity to manage as effectively as Danny has done here at the county," Commissioner C.W. Smith said in a written statement. Jordan is currently paid $190,486 a year with benefits, plus a $1,000 monthly housing allowance. Jordan's contract says raises are dependent upon satisfactory performance evaluations. "The total compensation increase will include, at a minimum, a 5 percent step increase each year beginning July 1, 2009, until and including July 1, 2016, unless the contract is terminated," the contract states. Commissioners credit Jordan with making Jackson County one of the most financially stable in the state. While other counties have floundered after the loss of federal timber money, Jackson County has amassed a sizeable rainy-day fund. Without going to the voters for more taxes, the county built a 9-1-1 center, remodeled the courthouse, purchased the post office building to consolidate its health services and will build a new sheriff's headquarters in White City. In spite of his positive review, Jordan said he can do better. "I still see room for improvement," he said, citing customer service as an area he wanted to continue working on. The commissioners agreed. "The only reason for not putting 'far exceeds requirements' (in the customer service category) is because there are times when Mr. Jordan's demeanor intimidates those to whom he is speaking. His intelligence and intensity sometimes come off as arrogance," Commissioner Chair Don Skundrick said in a written remark. "With this said, however, Mr. Jordan is widely respected by his subordinates and the general community, especially those in leadership."
