Speaking at the scene of the investigation, Medford Police Department Sergeant Jason Antley said Sunday evening that police aren't sure yet whether the shooting was accidental or intentional. He said a handgun went off twice inside the truck. "Two shots were fired. That's part of the troubling aspect of this case," Antley said. A report of the shooting came in at 4:12 p.m., he said. The victim was taken by ambulance to a hospital, witnesses said. Police found two casings inside the truck but were still looking for the two fired bullets Sunday evening. Antley said one of the bullets may be in the victim's leg. Several officers were on the scene of the shooting in the 300 block of Chestnut Street searching for evidence, interviewing relatives and neighbors and checking neighboring homes to make sure no one else was hit by the second bullet. No one else was hurt, police said. A bullet hole was visible in the driver's side door of a white Dodge Ram truck parked in the gravel driveway of a home on the street. A relative of the victim said he was about 30 years old. Police did not release the name of the victim. The second young man who was in the truck with the victim at the time of the shooting was sitting in the back of a police car being questioned Sunday evening. Whoever fired the weapon could face charges that range from unlawful use of a weapon to — if the shooting was intentional — first-degree assault or attempted murder, Antley said. He said there was no indication Sunday evening that either man had felony convictions that could lead to felon in possession of a firearm charges. Antley said Medford police were with the victim at a local hospital to interview him. He said the injury was not life-threatening. —Staff reporter Vickie Aldous can be reached at 541-776-4486 or [email protected] . Follow her at www.twitter.com/VickieAldous .
