McNary, eliminated the Black Tornado in the first round of the state playoffs last season, scored three runs in the top of the first inning. After that, it was all Black Tornado. Tralene Kucera hit a solo home run during a six-run first inning for North. McNary got one back in the top of the second, but the Tornado scored four in the bottom of the frame for a 10-4 lead. Kucera was 2-for-4 with a pair of RBIs, while Olivia Lethlean, Taelor Mayben and Teanna Gonsalves each had three hits. Gonsalves scored three times, Lethlean twice and Mayben drove in two. Winning pitcher Sarah Thomas allowed five runs — three earned — on nine hits, striking out four and walking one. Davis received help from Ben Quast (75) as the Challengers finished with a team score of 314 to stave off runner-up St. Mary’s. The Crusaders shot 337 as a team with Jeremy Wu’s 73 leading the way and Josh Wu providing a 76. Lakeview’s Tate Lightle shot a 70 to earn medalist honors. Falon Sonnen shot a 97 and Caitlyn O’Connor added a 103 for the Comets. Eagle Point was led by Ryleigh Gainey’s 101. CENTENNIAL TOURNAMENT : Kiana Oshira, Crater’s lone representative, turned in a 2-under-par 70 while St. Mary’s won the tournament at Centennial Golf Club. Kaylee Wu penciled in an 80 and Kamryn Ford added an 81 for the Crusaders, who were the only school to provide a complete team and claimed the event with a score of 463. Track & Field MEDFORD TWILIGHT MEET : Guided by Madeline Volk, Marissa Dobry and Maddie Wheelock, St. Mary’s faired well with six individual winners at the Medford Twilight meet at Spiegelberg Stadium. Volk won the 800, Dobry the 1,500 and Wheelock grabbed the win in the high jump. All three represented a leg of the winning 4x4 relay team that also included Meg Vasey. On the boys side, Mark Wyant finished first in the 400 and Josh Martin was tops in the shot put.
