Can you give us more information on this project. Is this going to be a park? Who is funding the development, and when will it be complete? — Don M., Central Point Don, a quick search on our website will turn up several stories on the improvements being made to the beloved Central Point fishing hole. But we’ll save you the trouble. Jackson County is in the midst of building a 92-space recreational vehicle park just north of the Expo grounds. The demand for an RV park is high on the West Coast and even greater in the Rogue Valley, said John Vial, the county’s roads and parks director. “Probably, the most common call we get is, ‘We are traveling through the area. Where can we stay?’ ” said Vial. “We feel this will be a great enhancement for tourism, for people wanting to raft the river, go to Shakespeare or Britt, as well as for people just passing through." The $5 million project also will include enhancements to the day-use facilities around the Expo Pond, including a paved parking area and walkways, wheelchair-accessible platforms and docks, restrooms and a covered picnic area. “We’re working closely with ODFW (Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife) to increase the fishery and not decrease it,” Vial said. “We think the day-use area is an important part of the park.” The project is being financed by a $2 million transfer from the county's general fund to its parks fund and a $3 million loan from the general fund.
