Despite facing large schools from California at the Clovis Shootout, the Comets are still undefeated on the season, and so are their upper-weight wrestlers. Crater won all three of its dual matches Friday and advanced to today’s championship pool. The Comets pinned losses on host Clovis (65-9), Wenatchee (66-12) and El Medina (51-22). "The most satisfying win was against Clovis," Crater coach Greg Haga said. "They’ve beaten us in each of the past two finals and placed second in the state of California last year." Chase Maloney and Ron Lee earned pins in all three of their matches. Jon Bernhardt, Adam Lindgren, Collin Brooks, Cody Clark and Charlie Alexander all went 3-0, giving the Comets a sweep from 145 to heavyweight. "From 145 on up we’re pretty solid," Haga said. "We faced some tough competition in the lower weights." Advertisement In his first match of the season, 103-pounder Zach Kezer went 2-1, with his lone loss coming by a point. COAST CLASSIC — At North Bend, seven Eagle Point wrestlers advanced to today’s 9 a.m. quarterfinals after the Eagles settled into sixth place following the first day of tournament action. Spencer Doran (103), David James (112), Randy Pershall (130), Ricky Fletes (140), Jake McCoy (145), Justin Clark (189) and heavyweight Tyler Cam all posted wins in the opening round. Three Eagles, Robbie Mannenbach (135), Dennis Orvis (171) and Marcus Wyatt (215), will compete in the consolation bracket at 11 a.m. after dropping their openers.
