November 14. 2014 4:15PM Detours planned while beams placed at new Phoenix exit Nighttime Interstate 5 traffic will be detoured near Phoenix while massive beams are placed for a new overpass at the Fern Valley exit 24 interchange now under construction. Contractor Hamilton Construction has scheduled the beam placement next week and during the first week of December, the Oregon Department of Transportation reported. From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Tuesday, Nov. 18, to Thursday, Nov. 20, southbound I-5 traffic will be rerouted onto Highway 99 from Medford's exit 27 to Talent's exit 21. From 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. nightly Tuesday, Dec. 2, to Thursday, Dec. 4, northbound I-5 traffic will travel around the construction site using the existing Phoenix exit 24 on- and off-ramps. A total of 38 beams — 19 in each direction — will be placed over I-5. Each beam weighs 34 tons and is 84 feet long and 33 inches tall, ODOT reported. The new bridge over I-5 will have two lanes in each direction, along with sidewalks and bike lanes.
