Seven local nonprofits among Oregon's '100 best' Monday Oct 3, 2016 at 12:01 AM Oct 3, 2016 at 7:49 AM Ryan Pfeil Mail Tribune @RyanPfeil Seven nonprofits based in Jackson County made the Oregon Business magazine list of "100 Best Nonprofit Workplaces to Work For in Oregon" for 2016. Pathway Enterprises, Living Opportunities, Rogue Community Health, Dogs for the Deaf, Coyote Trails, Rogue Valley Veterans & Community Outreach and Rogue Valley Youth For Christ all made the list, released annually by the business publication. Combined, the organizations employ 511 people, according to the magazine. Qualifying and rankings are based on a feedback survey that ranks satisfaction on factors such as work environment, mission and goals, career development, benefit and management. More than 5,000 employees and volunteers filled it out in 2016. There are 29,976 nonprofits statewide, according to the Oregon Secretary of State's Office. The nonprofits on the list were split among three categories. Pathway Enterprises and Living Opportunities, Medford-based nonprofits that support people with mental and developmental disabilities, and Rogue Community Health, a network of health clinics for low-income patients, landed on the "large organization" list, which is for organizations with at least 50 employees, placing 15th, 25th and 32nd, respectively, out of 33. Dogs for the Deaf, a Central Point-based nonprofit that trains service dogs to assist deaf people, finished 20th out of the 33 groups on the "medium organization" list, which includes nonprofits with 20 to 49 employees.  Coyote Trails, Rogue Valley Veterans & Community Outreach and Rogue Valley Youth for Christ finished 7th, 14th and 20th, respectively, on the list of "small organizations," which have fewer than 20 employees. Coyote Trails is a Medford-based outdoor education center. Rogue Valley Veterans & Community Outreach provides transition services and permanent housing for veterans needing intensive care. Rogue Valley Youth for Christ is a faith-based program that connects youth with mentors.
