Siskiyou fire grows; homes not threatened A fire on the Siskiyou National Forest outside Brookings grew to 700 acres Thursday. Five 20-person crews and four air tankers fought the Repeat Fire, which did not immediately threaten homes about two miles away, said Siskiyou National Forest spokeswoman Mary Stansell. The fire on Mount Emily was two miles north of the Bombsite Trail, which leads to the spot where a Japanes bomber launched from a submarine dropped incendiary bombs during World War II in a futile attempt to start a winter forest fire. Meanwhile, campfire restrictions on the Siskiyou have been increased because of continued extreme fire danger. Deer hunters and other campers will be allowed to build campfires only in designated recreational sites such as parks.
