Police name driver whose car killed girl Police have released the name of a driver whose vehicle struck and killed a 4-year-old girl last month in a hit-and-run accident in Ashland. Heather Lynne Miller, 29, of the Ashland area, was identified Wednesday as the driver in the accident that killed Cassidy Carroll. Miller could not be reached Wednesday, and her Medford attorney, Frank DeSimone, declined comment except to say, "It's in my opinion a very, very tragic and unfortunate accident." Police have said the investigation into the accident remains open but that they do not expect to file criminal charges. They say tests have shown Miller was driving at the speed limit or below. Ashland Capt. Mike DeCapua said police have finished interviewing witnesses, and he anticipated that police reports will be forwarded to the district attorney's office by next week. Prosecutors will review the reports to determine whether charges will be filed. Police released Miller's name at the request of Jackson County District Attorney Mark Huddleston after the Mail Tribune requested that Huddleston make the name public. Cassidy was killed as she was crossing Granite Street in Ashland on Jan. 31; Miller later turned herself in. Mail Tribune Copyright   The Mail Tribune 1999, Medford, Oregon USA
