PREP ROUNDUP RV Adventist girls clinch No. 1 seed Comment MailTribune.com Writer Posted Feb. 14, 2016 at 2:00 AM Posted Feb. 14, 2016 at 2:00 AM » Social News In a season of first-time accomplishments, the Rogue Valley Adventist girls basketball team added yet another to their resume thanks to a 30-22 win over Hosanna Christian in Mountain Valley League play Saturday. The host Red Tail Hawks, who earned their first wins over Hosanna Christian and Chiloquin this season, also secured their first guaranteed trip to the MVL district tournament next weekend as the No. 1 seed by virtue of their regular season league championship. “This is the first time we’ve ever gone to districts so it’s a pretty big deal,” said RVA head coach Marlene Slagle. “It’s pretty exciting. The girls made lots of goals this year and they’ve pretty much accomplished everything so far.” Rose Tovar scored eight points and had eight rebounds and three assists, while Hannah Wood added eight points and two steals and Ashton Petray had six points and two steals for RVA. Hosanna Christian (19-6, 12-3 MVL) pulled within 16-13 at halftime but was outscored 6-0 in the fourth quarter. The Red Tail Hawks will next play the winner of Tuesday’s MVL playoff on Friday. BUTTE FALLS 39, TRINITY LUTHERAN 37 : At Butte Falls, Katie Munsell notched 13 points, four assists and five steals to lead Butte Falls to the season-ending victory in Mountain Valley League play. Raleigh Weaver added 12 points, 18 rebounds and six blocks for Butte Falls (8-13, 4-11 MVL), which ran the final 8.9 seconds off the clock to deny Trinity Lutheran (12-9, 7-7). CHILOQUIN 58, PROSPECT 29 : At Chiloquin, Chiloquin rolled to a 30-3 halftime lead in the Mountain Valley League finale. Savanna Breiholz had 11 points and Julia Latona eight for Prospect, which ended its season with records of 8-16 overall and 3-12 in league. Boys Basketball BUTTE FALLS 89, TRINITY LUTHERAN 35 : At Butte Falls, senior Wil Bateman knocked down a school-record 10 3-pointers en route to a career-high 45 points to go with 10 rebounds in the season-ending Mountain Valley League win. Bateman was 10-for-21 from 3-point range, 6-for-11 from inside the arc and 2-for-6 from the foul line to account for his big night for the Loggers (5-14, 4-11 MVL). Kadin Ault added 20 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists and Isaac Tiry had eight of his team’s 14 steals and four blocked shots. HOSANNA CHRISTIAN 58, RV ADVENTIST 56 : Nathaniel James posted 26 points and eight rebounds and nearly rallied Rogue Valley Adventist to an upset win over Mountain Valley League-leading Hosanna Christian (22-3, 14-1 MVL). The Red Tail Hawks (11-13, 7-8) trailed by eight points with 40 seconds remaining before James hit a pair of 3-pointers to close the gap. Trevor Haugen added 20 points and 12 rebounds and Jared Cumbee had eight points and four assists for RVA, which will play at Triad on Wednesday during a league playoff to secure a spot in the district finals at Oregon Tech. CHILOQUIN 80, PROSPECT 48 : At Chiloquin, Prospect wrapped up its season 8-16 overall and 6-9 in Mountain Valley League play. Skiing OISRA DISTRICT: At Chemult, Ashland’s boys team placed third at districts behind top-10 runs in the classic Nordic race by juniors Erik Oline (eighth, 19:14) and Elias Lawson (ninth, 19:40) at Walt Haring Sno-park. Those efforts allowed Lawson to place fourth and Oline to finish fifth overall in the all-district cumulative scoring, which combines scores for the season in all events. Ashland freshman Mina Devore finished 10th in 26:36 in the Nordic race.
