Tamara Ann Bauer, 42, of the 200 block of West Gregory Road, Central Point, appeared in Jackson County Circuit Court Friday on charges of first-degree criminal mistreatment, first-degree theft and three counts of identity theft. Police said, in crimes similar to those alleged against the victim’s previous caregiver, Bauer took her elderly employer’s credit card for her own personal use and also stole cash from the woman. Bauer worked for the victim until Thursday, when she was arrested, said Medford police Sgt. Brett Johnson. She was hired after 50-year-old Jimmy Roy Kelly, who was charged Thursday with stealing approximately $20,000 from the same elderly woman between October and January, Johnson said. The victim told police that she had hired Kelly to do odd jobs and to stay overnight at her Central Point home. A Medford Bank of America employee notified police when Kelly started cashing large checks against the victim’s account. Evidence against Bauer was uncovered during the investigation of Kelly, Johnson said. Kelly remained in the Jackson County jail Friday in lieu of $100,000 bail. Bauer was released on her own recognizance. Kelly, who lists a Central Point address in the 11000 block of Perry Road, is a paroled sex offender who was wanted by the state parole board at the time of his employment with the victim. Bauer has felony drug charges pending in Jackson County.
