Silva Suspect named in Gold Hill holdup By CHRIS CONRAD Mail Tribune The Medford man who police believe robbed a Gold Hill bank Wednesday might also be connected with several recent Rogue Valley robberies. Edward J. Silva, 28, has been named as the primary suspect in Wednesday’s 1:30 p.m. armed robbery of a Washington Mutual Bank, Jackson County sheriff’s Detective Colin Fagan said. "We are confident that he is associated with the Gold Hill robbery and several Jackson, Josephine and Siskiyou county (Calif.) robbery investigations," Fagan said. Police with a warrant searched Silva’s home in the 200 block of Whitman Place on Thursday. They found a white 1997 Dodge Stratus that matched witness descriptions of Wednesday’s getaway car. The car, registered to Silva’s mother, was turned over to the Oregon State Police crime lab for forensic analysis, Fagan said. Police found additional evidence in Silva’s home that linked him to several recent area robberies, though Fagan would not specify exactly which ones. Advertisement "He is responsible for the largest share of robberies in our area in recent days," Fagan said. Fagan did say that Silva is the primary suspect in the July 14 robbery of a PremierWest Bank in Dorris, Calif. Silva has a family member who lives in Macdoel, Calif., just north of Dorris. "We know that in the last 24 hours, Silva was in Siskiyou County," Fagan said. In July, Medford police Lt. Tim George said the Dorris heist is linked to the string of Rogue Valley bank and Purple Parrot robberies dating back to February. George said that Silva is not a suspect in either of Thursday’s Medford bank robberies. Police are still looking for the second man involved in the Gold Hill robbery, Fagan said. Silva is being tracked by a multi-agency team, consisting of Medford police, Jackson County sheriff’s detectives and the FBI. "He’s been on our suspects list for more than a month," Fagan said. "We recently were able to clearly identify him as a suspect." Silva is no stranger to Medford police. In 1996, he was convicted of first-degree burglary after police linked him to several car break-ins. He was also arrested as part of a 1997 burglary ring, in which he and several accomplices hit at least 17 homes and businesses, stealing at least $250,000 worth of property. In 2002, Silva was sentenced to 19 months in prison for burglarizing east Medford homes in broad daylight. He remains on parole for those crimes, George said. Police are looking for the public’s help in finding Silva. Fagan warns that Silva is armed and dangerous.
