Cold, snow hit valley The cold snap that turned area roads into skating rinks Saturday will continue today. A late-evening snowstorm forced Medford Police shut down the McAndrews overpass at about 8:45 p.m. Saturday after cars were slipping into the opposite lanes; Jacksonville Hill was blocked with stranded cars, and there were reports of cars sliding around all over the valley. Motorists reported traffic stopped on Interstate 5 north of Grants Pass. Saturday's high was 38 degrees; the overnight low was 23 degrees. It'll be even colder the next couple of days. The Saturday night/Sunday morning low was expected to dip to 17 degrees. Overnight lows tonight and Monday are expected also to be in the mid teens. As cold as that may be, it won't be a record. The record low for today's date is 8 degrees, and the record low for Dec. 21 is minus 4 degrees. Both marks were set in 1990. Today should be partly cloudy in the morning and mostly sunny by the afternoon, with a high expected to reach 28 degrees. Monday should be sunny, too, with a high around 30.
