North girls fall to Rams, 2-1 PORTLAND � The North Medford girls soccer team had its run through the Class 4A state playoffs halted in dramatic fashion, losing 2-1 in a shootout to Central Catholic. The Black Tornado and the Rams played to a 1-all tie through regulation and the two 10-minute overtime sessions before the game was settled in a shootout. Central Catholic�s Katie Daily scored the winning goal in the shootout to defeat the Black Tornados in the second round of the state playoffs. Whitney Caves scored Central Catholic�s only regulation goal. Class 3A/2A/1A Girls Playoffs VALLEY CATHOLIC 4, ST. MARY�S 0 � At Beaverton, Valley Catholic scored three goals in the final eight minutes of the game to down the Crusaders in the second round of the state playoffs. Alexis Lampert scored two goals for Valley Catholic, and Mary Kay Yamada and Maddy Brink each added a goal. Margaret Moore and Bree DeArmond played well in maintaining possession for the Crusaders before Valley Catholic�s late surge. The Crusaders finished the year at 10-4-2 overall. LA SALLE 3, NORTH VALLEY 2, OT � At Grants Pass, La Salle�s Chelsea Topping scored in the eighth minute of overtime to stop the Knights� playoff push. Topping also scored to tie the game at 2-2 with 13 minutes left in regulation. The combination of senior Jessica Freidman and junior Malloree Enoch provided both goals for the Knights. The Knights finished the year at 12-2-1 overall. CATLIN GABEL 6, HIDDEN VALLEY 0 � At Portland, Christa Thoersz and Brittany Douglas each scored two goals to defeat the Mustangs in the second round of the state playoffs. Alice Hacker and Jenny Parker each added a goal to round out Catlin Gabel�s scoring. The Mustangs finished the year at 14-4 after going 3-10-1 last year. Class 4A Boys Playoffs KLAMATH UNION 2, SUNSET 1 � At Beaverton, senior Alex Casey scored the go-ahead goal to advance the Pelicans to the quarterfinals of the Class 4A state playoffs. Casey�s goal was assisted by his younger brother Tyler. Luis Garcia scored the first goal for the Pelicans. Klamath Union will play host to Sprague in Saturday�s quarterfinals. Class 3A/2A/1A Boys Playoffs CATLIN GABEL 2, PHOENIX 0 � At Portland, Catlin Gabel�s goalkeeper Brian Close posted a shutout to end the Pirates� playoff run. Jason Salzman gave Catlin Gabel a 1-0 lead with a goal in the 40th minute. Ben Leftwich put the game away with a goal in the 74th minute. HIDDEN VALLEY 3, MOLALLA 0 � At Molalla, senior Matt Johnson scored two goals to propel the Mustangs into the quarterfinals of the Class 3A/2A/1A state playoffs. Johnson scored both of his goals in the first 12 minutes of the match. Jon Morse rounded out the scoring for the Mustangs with a goal in the 50th minute.
