The Ashland Canal loses about 62 million gallons of water per irrigation season due to evaporation and seepage. That's enough water to supply the entire city of bout a month and a half during winter or supply irrigation to an additional 800 properties, city Conservation Analyst Julie Smitherman said at a community meeting Thursday evening at Southern Oregon University. Snow amounts were less than expected Monday for parts of Jackson and Josephine counties, but some flakes did make it down to the Rogue Valley floor. The valley did not receive as much as expected because temperatures were about 3 to 5 degrees warmer than models used for forecasts Sunday. "That had to do with, also, an error in the track of cold air pool aloft that was driving the weather system," said National Weather Service meteorologist Brett Lutz. "It stayed out more toward the coast." Mount
