Sad that the greatest country in the world can’t solve its trash problem. Wendy Gramma

Sexism in sport stories Fifty years ago I played and coached girls’ basketball; six players, all restricted to half court and only allowed to dribble three times. Boys’ games were reported on the front page of the local paper; girls’ games were seldom mentioned. I have watched with pleasure as the sport has developed female athletes as exciting to watch as men, thanks in large part to Title IX. It has been a thrill to see the recent excellence of the incredible women playing

The con is on Corporate interests are running ads claiming Greg Walden is a “Champion of Health Care Innovation,” supposedly protecting seniors. As the No. 1 recipient of corporate health care dollars, he’s actually protecting Pharma and big medicine, not seniors. Promoting pot and profiting Congratulations on publishing the pot magazine in your newspaper. You have found a new revenue stream for the paper. It’s unfortunate that you have chosen to promote something that has not been studied nor proven to be effective. I would hazard to guess that when they finally study it research will show that smoking pot causes cancer just like tobacco smoke. I find it interesting that both the fathers and founders of medical marijuana in California and Oregon d

Can’t afford new jail Coincidentally with the current drive to convince voters to pass a bond for a new jail, MT’s “No-shows served notice” (May 7) touts a new initiative to hold chronic offenders in jail until their court date as a solution. The article quickly shows its intent sell the public on a new jail, as if it would be the panacea to all of the problems of dealing with these offenders to have a big new jail to warehouse them in. The new jail will cost $1.09 per $1,000 of assessed value,

I confess, when it comes to what I call my go-to “sippin’ beer,” I lean toward moderately to highly hopped and malty ales rather than crystal clear and crisp lagers.
