Controversial podcast host Candace Owens received substantial criticism this week from fellow MAGA influencers after evidence presented during Charlie Kirk's preliminary hearing contradicted numerous claims she had made regarding the shooting. Owens had previously asserted that Tyler Robinson, charged with Kirk's killing, was not the actual perpetrator. She directed suspicion toward various entities including Israel, Egypt, the U.S. military, and Turning Point USA. In her videos, she claimed Robinson "wasn't near the site of the shooting" and stated that Lance "Luna" Twiggs "was never questioned by the police." However, the preliminary hearing revealed video footage showing Robinson on campus before Kirk's death, and recordings documented Twiggs being questioned by police. The FBI also interviewed Twiggs the morning following the shooting. Owens also faced criticism for her ongoing attacks on Erika Kirk, which prompted Kirk to publicly request during a December 2025 Fox News interview that Owens "stop" targeting her family and colleagues. Multiple prominent conservative figures turned against Owens. Dinesh D'Souza characterized her as a "malignant narcissist." Ben Shapiro, Christopher Rufo, Lauren Southern, and others condemned her behavior, with Southern stating: "There's just no evidence for it" and describing alternative media's misinformation as having "run amok." Owens responded through social media posts and a spokesperson, defending her position while accusing others of coordinated attacks against her.
