Attorney William Scherer attached two emails signed by Rothstein to investors in his alleged Ponzi scheme. The investors in the To: field are AJ, for Al Discala; Dean Kretschmar and Doug Von Allmen. The emails are supposedly about a new lawsuit settlement that Rothstein had negotiated — the vehicle for enticing investors. In one of them written to Discala, he put a little smiley face at the end of the signature: Ciao, ciao, Money never sleeps Mother : - ) Rothstein appears to be describing a $30 million settlement agreement where the supposed plaintiff is prepared to accept only $18 million if she can get paid out immediately. The investors are presumably being asked to pay the $18 million immediately and then collect the $30 million after six months. Here's the attached email: Hey If you want to do something nice for one of your big funders (and for you and frank and dean and doug), I have a singe deal on a sex harassment case I just settled. It involved a horrific sexual assault against a girl that just turned 18. She was a minor when the attack occurred. She is giving up huge money as she wants the attacker out of her life.
