rumored that southerners wouid be reimbursed for till loss

On this 20th day of January, 114S, before me, a
Uosraissioner of the Confederate States for the St. Johns
kiVer Subdivision of :.:astern florida, personally appeared
Albert G. Philips, who, being duly sworn, deposes and says:

That he is u oitisen of the State of ilorida, living
on his plantation in tlorida im the Uountd of Duval in said
*tate; that in the month of January, 1862, the negro bOy,
ad,named in the acoompanying eohedule, as reoeived on
board one of the gunboats of the United Stutee, lying in
the mt. Johns niver, rlorida, and was therms harbored and
carried awlv from thn deponent, his owner.
in the month el' euly, 1862, the negro slaves,
Peter, and mom were also received on board one of the
gunboats of the united states, lyiwr in the mt. Johns niver,
and were thereon harbored; and eateo away fro m the deponent,
their owner.
That in the month of September, 1862, the negro elavey
Morris, named in the annexed nohodule, the elave rilliam, rotor,
and nero bin a also named, were Lien° received on one of the

gunboats lying in the iJt. Johns niver, an wue thereon harbored
ant carried avaq from the deponent.
That in the month of votober, 1862, the remaining slaves
in the annexed schedule, Yr;:
Sophy. Diana, musan, Harriet, Jimmie, Louisa, nillie,
Avy, 1rnk, Hester, Jane, Riohard, Muria, nunoy, zAkm, baby,
Tom, Thomas Hodges, Ruphiliu, George, ulark, Aaron, John,
betty, Julia, Henry, ttephen, Nanny, uhurlotte, Harry, Delia,

were forced to leave the premises .f the doponlink, and to go
upon the gunboat of the United 6tatee then lying cff the said
premises near the town of Jacksonville by being conveyed from
the luJAing of the deponent to the gunboat in small boats.

Albert 4. rhilips in regard to hie losses by the acts of the
united states forces; is familiar with the facts stated
therein and knows them to be true; knows that the said Albert
G. Philips is the true and lawful owner of the property
named in the schedule and that the valuations of the same
