Mrs, J.P. Church and her sister Mrs. Davidson daughters
of John Bolton and lila Doyel Bolton were born in Wexford
Ireland.
In 1811 -when small children -ire. Church, Mrs. Davidson
and a brother ease from Ireland with their mother. After load*
ing in Now lbrk they left immodlatley for Pert Stanton Wow
Mizitio to join their father, John Hobert Bolton who had pre-
oeded his family to the Belted States andiwas head of the
Goverment Commissary Dopaitment of the Military eneampment
at Fort Stanton.
Covered wagons and a military escort to protest ire.
Dolton and her children from Indians was sent to meet and
set as guide for then over the old Santa Ye Wail in the
journey, to Fort Stanton.
In 1873 the family moved to Lincoln New Mexico.
Mrs. Church and Mrs. Davidson have lived in Roswell sines
1891, and have been leaders in the social and club life of
that city and active in the advanvoment of the arts and
cultural interests Sof New Mexico.
Mts. Church was the instigator, and with the assistance
of the Chaves County Archaeological and Historical Society
was motive in the work of restoration of El Torreon (The Tower)
at Lincoln which was built by Mexican settlers in the 50s as
a protection frog the Indians.
