Applying the World Economic Forum’s Blueprint
for Intelligent Economies: AI Competitiveness
through Regional Collaboration.
AI is not simply a digital innovation; it has the
potential to be one of the most consequential
technological breakthroughs in recent history with
an influence that cuts across sectors and industries,
reshaping the foundations of modern economies.
Much like other technologies that dramatically
lowered fundamental input costs, rapidly spread
across sectors and drove productivity growth, such
as the steam engine, electricity or the internet,2
AI is redefining how societies work, produce,
consume and compete. AI unlocks new frontiers
in productivity, innovation and economic growth. If
harnessed correctly, it offers benefits for the whole
of society. For Latin America – a region marked
by historically lower productivity and persistent inequality – AI represents an opportunity to
accelerate economic and social development.
Recognizing these transformative opportunities,
the World Economic Forum developed the
Blueprint for Intelligent Economies.3 This
comprehensive framework for harnessing artificial
intelligence to foster sustainable economic
development offers guidance for nations and
regions at any level of digital and AI maturity.
The Blueprint outlines three layers essential for
using AI in this way: building the foundations for
intelligent economies, growing new intelligent
economies and putting people at the heart of
intelligent economies.
