Airports of Tomorrow Experience Immersive climate adaptation planningThe challenge As climate risks escalate, airports face existential threats – from heatwaves that impair aircraft lift to coastal flooding that compromises runway infrastructure. Yet few tools exist for simulating adaptation at scale. Decision-makers needed a way to see and test climate adaptation strategies under realistic conditions. The Village’s role As the first augmented-reality space developed with the next-generation Global Collaboration Village, the Airports of Tomorrow experience let users step into future risk scenarios. Participants simulated challenges such as rising sea levels and heat-related infrastructure stress, while exploring solutions like redesigned terminals and fuel efficiency innovation. The immersive space enabled shared learning and collaborative planning in ways traditional briefings could not. Participants Aviation leaders, government planners and industry experts used the Pavilion to model risks and workshop responses. The Forum led the experience independently, offering tailored engagements for sector stakeholders. Key moment The experience inspired early-stage discussions with the leadership of one of the world’s top airports on how to adapt the platform for internal use.2025USE CASE 11 27Copyright: © Global Collaboration Village: World Economic Forum, Accenture and Microsoft.
