Social Innovation in Action
This session highlighted the growing role of
social innovation in tackling global challenges.
Leaders from various sectors discussed the
evolution of social business and its economic
impact. Nobel laureate Muhammad Yunus
emphasized shifting from wealth concentration
to problem-solving through social business,
evolving from microcredit to healthcare and
education. Panellists Nicola Galombik, Executive Director of Yellowwoods, and Parks Tau, Minister
of Trade, Industry and Competition in South
Africa, highlighted the need for collaboration
between businesses, governments and social
enterprises to support social entrepreneurship.
Barbara Frei of Schneider Electric showcased
how corporations can embed social business
into their operations, driving job creation and CO2
reduction. Rise Ahead Pledge signatories have
already invested $277 million in social innovation,
reflecting growing private-sector commitment.
This session was moderated by Raj Kumar,
President and Editor-in-Chief of Devex, and
featured remarks by Hilde Schwab.
