CASE STUDY 3 CDP’s true cost of water valuation Organization: Carbon Disclosure Project (CDP). Description: In 2022, 16% of companies (3,909 total) responding to CDP’s questionnaire reported setting an internal price for water, to reflect more accurately the costs of water provision. These companies were mostly from the energy, materials, food and beverage and agriculture sectors. Despite water generally being undervalued, some companies are increasingly realizing the importance of water for their businesses. Companies with an internal water price reported opportunities related to water efficiency of around $49 million – six times higher than the $8 million reported by companies without internal water prices.
