--> --> SOU tuition, fees go up Ashland Daily Tidings Southern Oregon University ranks No. 2 behind Eastern Oregon University by just $8 per year as the most affordable place to get a state college education. A 3 percent tuition hike for resident undergraduates was approved by the Oregon Board of Higher Education on Friday for all seven public universities. New fee rates were also passed. The board cited inflation as the cause for the increase. The new rate per year for resident undergraduates at SOU in 2002-03 is set at $3,687. This year's rate was $3,555. The rate for resident graduate students in Ashland is now set at $6,423; non-resident undergraduates will pay $11,526; non-resident graduate students will pay $11, 301. In comparison, Eastern Oregon University will charge resident undergraduates an annual tuition rate of $3,678. On the high end of the scale, resident undergraduates at the University of Oregon will pay $4,404 annually. Other rates for resident undergrads include: Oregon Institute of Technology: $3,843; Oregon State University: $4,014; Portland State University: $3,885; Western Oregon University: $3,720; OUS Cascades Campus: $3,600. Fee increases at SOU approved Friday included: technology fees - increase of $6 to a maximum of $50 per term to "address greater demands for services," according to a press release from the higher ed board; a new School of Science resource fee of $20 per term; a new undergraduate School of Business resource fee of $15 per term; a $5 (residents) and $3 (non-residents) increase for Master of Management fees; and incidental fees - increase by $8 per term due to inflation, the board stated.
