--> --> Ashland Rowing Club keeps up its winning ways Ashland Daily Tidings' The up-and-coming Ashland Rowing Club made a name for itself last week at the Lake Merritt Sprints in Oakland, Calif. Ashland coach Jim Sims and 14 oarsmen took part in the July 29 event and placed in almost every event. The first award for the Ashland team was a third place finish in the mixed 8 race. The squad consisted of Cathy Tronquet, Judy Oursler, Carl Prufer, Darrell Gee, Mike Skibinski, Bill Kirkman, Lesley Klecan and Judith Cope. Ashland High's Traci Brander coxed the effort. Sims also came away with a third place effort in the men's lightweight sculls. Other finishers for Ashland were: · Pairs partners Beth Geismar and Paula Backus finished second. · Geismar, Backus, Diane Green and Corinne Lombardi won the gold in the master's 4 event. · Geismar, Backus, Green, Lombardi, Tronquet, Oursler, Klecan and Cope joined efforts for a second place finish in the women's master's 8.
