--> --> ODFW seeking panel members Ashland Daily Tidings The Oregon Department of Fish and Wildlife is seeking people interested in native fish migration issues to help the state remove stream barriers cooperatively with landowners. ODFW will form a nine-member citizen task force early next year with representatives from water users, anglers, conservation organizations and the public at large. Applications are due by Nov. 30. A legislative bill passed this year requires ODFW to complete and maintain a statewide inventory of artificial barriers to fish passage. Task force members will help the agency prioritize the list to begin removing barriers and establish rules related to fish passage. ODFW estimates there are about 5,500 culverts on state and county roads in Oregon, and half are impassable to fish. Task force members will serve four-year terms, with a limit of two consecutive terms. The group will meet every month or two at first, and then meet quarterly after the initial rule making is complete. Meals, lodging and travel expenses will be reimbursed.
