Our 5 favorite TV mothers Comment Posted May. 8, 2015 @ 11:02 am Sunday is Mother’s Day (hope you mailed that card you bought!), and what better way to celebrate than to pay tribute to our favorite TV moms? They’re funny, they’re loving and we guess you could call them the anti-Betty Draper. 1. Lorelai Gilmore: Lorelai Gilmore, quip-filled patron saint of the WB’s long-running series “Gilmore Girls” (2000-2007) and mom to Rory, isn’t always the perfect mom, but she’s always trying to do the right thing. Despite their occasional rifts, Lorelai and Rory always patched things up, usually over coffee, or movie nights in their living room. (Photo: The WB) 2. Morticia Addams: We always like it when parents encourage their children to be different, and what better example of that than Morticia Addams of “The Addams Family” (1964-1966)? (OK, maybe Lily Munster of rival spooky family series “The Munsters”?)(Photo: Wikimedia Commons) 3. Joyce Summers: Joyce Summers, mother to Buffy (and, later, Dawn) of “Buffy the Vampire Slayer,” put up with a lot from her daughter, from hordes of vampires to robotic maniacal boyfriends to the usual teenage ’tude. We were just as heartbroken as Buffy and Dawn when (spoiler alert for a show that’s been off the air for more than a decade!) the show’s creators killed her off during Season 5. (Photo: The WB) 4. Vivian Banks: Professor Vivian Banks of “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air” has a lot on her plate, bringing nephew Will to California to live with her family, which includes Carlton, Hilary, Ashley and, eventually, Nicky. Will’s crazy schemes would be enough to drive anyone crazy, but Vivian stays (mostly calm) throughout it all. (Photo: NBC) 5. Lucy Ricardo: Funny mom Lucy is the one doing the scheming in TV classic “I Love Lucy” (1951-1957)... and we love Lucy and her creative ideas and countless side jobs. Somehow, she and husband Ricky manage to raise an adorable son, Little Ricky, who ends up becoming quite a talented drummer.
