--> --> June 5: Humann leads Grizzlies to win Ashland Daily Tidings In its first performance under new head coach Steve Humann, the Ashland High girls varsity basketball team won all three of its games to take first place in the Southern Oregon Conference Tipoff Tournament. The Grizzlies, led by seniors-to-be Marla Morin, Julia Sobolik and Chloe Hansen and sophomores-to-be Hilary Huyett and Alysse Carlson, beat North Medford, Crater and Grants Pass to claim the championship. Morin, a first-team all-conference post as a junior, scored a team-high 14 points in Ashland's 53-42 finals win over North Medford; and Huyett, daughter of former Southern Oregon University head women's coach Shirley Huyett, banked 27 points in the Grizzlies' 68-46 semifinal win over Crater. Ashland downed Grants Pass 45-25 in the first round. The Tipoff annually kicks of the summer basketball season for the teams from the SOC. Humann liked what he saw, but was quick to point out that success in the summer does not guarantee success later on. "They're going to be a good team, if we're all working," Humann said.
