I was walking in the back section of SOU where the yard maintenance guys dump grass clippings and such between the football field and the Softball fields. I almost stepped on the bird but I was alerted when it began to move into attack mode. Thank goodness I stopped in my tracks. Take a closer look below. This bird is called a Killdeer and is classified as a shorebird. It is often found some distance from water and frequents only open places, such as fields, pastures, and dry uplands. Golf courses and airfields, with their short grass, are also favorite habitats.
