( click here to see print version ) In Review | White Countess If you’ve followed the careers of James Ivory and Ismail Merchant over the years, their most halcyon days as filmmakers being in the ’80s and ’90s, then this, their final film together, is a must see. Regrettably, Ismail Merchant died last year, ending decades of successful collaboration. Perhaps the best way to approach “White Countess” is to simply comment on it as a film that stands alone, and not as a swan song or eulogy to the remarkable Merchant-Ivory partnership.
