--> --> Embezzlement is alleged at Abdill-Ellis Lambda Center By Myles Murphy Ashland Daily Tidings Ashland police are investigating a report of a possible embezzlement of $1,000 in cash from the Abdill-Ellis Lambda Community Center. Center officials Tuesday reported the situation to the Ashland Police Department. "Basically it's in the investigation process now with the detectives," Center board member Pat Smith said. "We'll leave it up to them and see what happens." Smith and APD detective Brent Jensen confirmed that a former staff member was part of the focus of the investigation. Jensen said the investigation is in its early stages now, and he is looking through the center's books and records to determine if money has been taken and, if so, the extent of embezzlement. Ashland police investigating an unrelated suspected embezzlement at the center in June, 2000, found at that time no crime had been committed. The center - formed following the 1995 murder of well-known Southern Oregon lesbian couple Roxanne Ellis and Michelle Abdill - serves gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgendered and straight allied people in Southern Oregon and Northern California. The center offers a number of programs, including outreach counseling and HIV testing. It has recently moved from its former Fourth Street location to new office space at the Congregational Church, 717 Siskiyou Boulevard.
