August 24. 2015 8:58PM SOU volleyball players Kopra, McGowne earn CCC nods The Southern Oregon University volleyball team's perfect start at the Biola Summer Slam resulted in Cascade Conference honors for Corynn Kopra, Lauren McGowne and the Raiders as a team Monday from the league office. Kopra was voted the CCC Red Lion Attacker of the Week and McGowne the CCC Red Lion Setter of the Week. The 16th-ranked Raiders were named the Adidas Team of the Week for going 4-0 with wins against two ranked opponents, good for the team's cleanest start in 10 years. McGowne got the weekly award for the second time in her career (she was also honored last October) after coordinating SOU's .237 attacking average. The Marshfield High product averaged 12.2 assists per set, the most torrid pace of her career, and with 56 was three shy of matching a career-high in SOU's five-set win over 22nd-ranked Hastings (Neb.). She also had 19 digs and six kills on the weekend. Kopra — an outside hitter competing in a collegiate match for the first time since she was at Western Oregon in 2011 — had a booming start for the Raiders with 54 kills (3.6 per set) in four matches and a .286 average. Her finest hour was in SOU's four-set upset of eighth-ranked Vanguard, when she became the first Raider to 20 kills this season on just 38 attacks. The Gresham native added 2.4 digs per set in the wins. The Raiders return to the court for the California Merced Invitational this weekend. They'll go for the program's 1,000th win at 7 p.m. Friday against the host team.
