An emergency "drop in" warming center is open Thursday, Feb. 21 at the First United Methodist Church in Ashland located at 175 N. Main St. Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and close at 9:30 p.m. Children and pets are welcome. Guests may stay until 7 a.m., and sleeping is allowed. Rain and snow showers will turn to all snow after 7 p.m. Wednesday with accumulation of 1 to 2 inches possible, according to the National Weather Service. Lows will be around 24 degrees. Thursday will warm up to a high of around 39 degrees, then temperatures will drop to a low around 22 Thursday night. To find out when the shelters are available, the public can check the Ashland Tidings online, the bulletin board on the Plaza and the wooden post in front of Pioneer Hall. Volunteers and resources are needed to make this happen, specifically: Help providing dinner for about 20 people Thursday evening and breakfast Friday morning Help with registration table from 7-9:30 p.m. Clean up at 7-8 a.m. in the morning Email Phil Johncock, shelter consultant, at [email protected] or text his cellphone at 702-518-8756 for more information or to volunteer.
