Ashland celebrates Airport Day Ashland Daily Tidings The Ashland Municipal Airport will be buzzing with activity Sunday for the 11th annual Airport Appreciation Day. A single-prop airplane takes off from the Ashland Community Airport on Friday. The airport will open its runway to the community Sunday, celebrating the 11th annual Ashland Airport Day. Ashland Daily Tidings/CHRIS MILLER Throughout the day, activities are planned to teach, delight and feed both adults and children. "The kids like the (airplane) rides, and the pancakes are always really good," airport operator Bob Skinner said. "It's a good time to come out and just check out the airport." An 11-year veteran of the event, Skinner owns Skinner Aviation, the fixed-base operator of Ashland Municipal Airport. The family-friendly event opens at 8 a.m. with a pancake breakfast hosted by the Experimental Aircraft Association. The breakfast will run through 11 a.m. People will be given the opportunity to examine jet ranger helicopters and biplanes from the 1930s and World War I. There will also be displays of commercial, exotic and unique aircraft, and custom home-built airplanes featured by the association. Throughout the day, people will have a chance to take a ride in an airplane, helicopter or ultra-light aircraft. From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m., children ages 8-17 can take Young Eagles plane rides, and there will be radio-controlled model aircraft demonstrations from noon to 1 p.m. Scenic air tours of the Rogue Valley are also available at $10 per person. Lunch, snacks and beverages will be available at the event until 2 p.m. and tri-plane owner Patrick Henry will make announcements throughout the day. The day is sponsored by Skinner Aviation Inc., the Airport Association and the Experimental Aircraft Association. Admission is free, but a $10 donation from adults is welcomed.'
