[Photo courtesy of Southern Oregon Historical Society] Thursday Feb 15, 2018 at 10:06 AM Feb 15, 2018 at 10:32 AM Local report Historian and former U.S. Forest Service archaeologist Jeff LaLande will give his talk on "When Timber Was King: The Rise and Decline of Southern Oregon's Wood Products Industry" again at 4 p.m. Thursday, March 8, in the Meese Meeting Room on the third floor at Hannon Library on the Southern Oregon University Ashland campus. LaLande previously gave the talk on Feb. 7 in Medford and Feb. 14 at the Ashland library as part of the Southern Oregon Historical Society Windows In Time lecture series. The lecture traces the arc of the Oregon timber industry from its 19th century roots, through the half-century boom time from 1943 though 1993 when the industry dominated the area economy, and the reasons for its decline.
