Ballet J�rgen's 'Romeo and Juliet' Canada's Ballet J�rgen will be performing their full-length production of "Romeo and Juliet" at 8 p.m., Saturday, March 1, at the Crat-erian Ginger Rogers Theater 23 S. Central Ave., Medford. The Toronto-based company takes its name from its founder, Bengt J�rgen, a classically trained artist from Sweden who is devoted to creating new ballets, contemporary in the works they perform, but classical in style. The company formed in 1987. Their goal was to fill a niche between large ballet companies which thrive on spectacle-laden revivals and modern dance companies which do not include any ballet in their repertoire. In 1992, J�rgen founded the School of Classical and Contemporary Dance with George Brown College. The intention was to develop new choreography and create new work. Arnold Spohr, artistic director emeritus of the Royal Winnipeg Ballet, joined with J�rgen in 1993, adding another renowned figure from the world of Canadian ballet. Set to the music of Sergei Prokofiev, �Romeo and Juliet� is one of Ballet J�rgen�s signature pieces. It avoids the bombast and spectacle of many other choreographed versions of Shakespeare�s play. Instead, the company has developed the choreography along the same lines as a theater production, focusing the choreography on the dynamic, evolving relationship of the central characters. The result is a more intimate performance, which captures the essence of the story�s romance and tragedy. Tickets are $22, $25 and $28 for adults and $15, $18 and $21 for youth (0-18). Call 779-3000.
