Ernestine R. Allen-Ahrens Ernestine R. Allen-Ahrens, 83, of Ashland, died Monday, Feb. 17, 2003, at the Ashland Community Hospital. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Litwiller-Simonsen Funeral Home and Crematory, Ashland. John Edwin Baird J. Edwin Baird, age 94, passed away on Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003, at the home of his son, Douglas, in Ashland after a short illness. "Ed" first moved to Ashland in 1994. He was born on May 29, 1908 in Brigham City, Utah. In 1933, he married Elizabeth Bradshaw Maughan of Wellsville, Utah. They were married 58 years before her death in 1992. he was a kind, gentle and devoted husband, father and grandpa. J. Edwin was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in many capacities as a lay member including missionary, bishop, stake presidency and mission president. From 1961 to 1965, J. Edwin served as president of the Southwest Indian Mission, providing humanitarian and religious service to Native American tribes in the Southwest and Northern Plains States. "Ed" enjoyed several professions during his lifetime, including; home builder, highway patrolman, county clerk, businessman, teacher, religious educator, writer, author, lecturer and handyman. When he turned 80 years of age, having lost his sight, J. Edwin began to memorize dramatic impersonations that he had written on the life of his favorite historical and scriptural characters, such as Abraham Lincoln, Paul, Peter, Enoch, Joseph Smith and Moroni. Over the next decade, he stirred audiences, large and small in California, Utah, Idaho and Oregon with his dramatic presentations. Ed was preceded in death by his wife, Elizabeth; his five sisters; Maude Merrill, Carmen Howell, Bertha Howell, Anna Smedley; Kathryn Haroldsen, and a grandson, John Erek Baird. Those of his family who remain to remember and honor him are: his three sons, Gareth Maughan (Sandra) Baird of Modesto, Calif., John Edwin (Janie) Baird of Provo, Utah and Douglas Frank (Christine) Baird of Ashland; sixteen grandchildren and twenty great grandchildren. Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2002 in the Ashland LDS Ward Chapel in Ashland. Viewing will be held from 9:30 to 10:45 a.m. just before the services. Bishop Dean Cropper will be conducting the services. Internment will be in the cemetery in Brigham City, Utah. Cheryl Marie Osmus Cheryl Marie Osmus, 55, of Medford, died Sunday, Feb. 16, 2003 at her home. A private family ceremony will be held. Cheryl Marie Osmus was born Dec. 13, 1947 in Milledgeville, Ga., daughter to Horace and Louise Wright. She moved to the Rogue Valley from Durango, Colo. in 1989. She worked as a clerk at Wal-Mart. Her hobbies included spending time with her grandchildren, gardening, collecting and listening to music, photography and helping others in need. Survivors include two sons, Donald W. Gerald (and his partner Monica Metzger) of Medford and L. Tanner Gerald of Ashland; sister, Marsha Mayberry of Ruidoso, N.M.; brother, Buddy Wright of Milledgeville, Ga.; father, Horace Wright of Milledgeville; two granddaughters, Miranda and Rachel Gerald; and close friends, Stuart Osmus and Tom Gerald. She was preceded in death by her mother, Louise Wright and grandson, Walker Gerald. Arrangements are under the direction of Hillcrest Memorial Park and Mortuary, Medford. Patricia Lee Klinefelter The memorial service for Patricia Lee Klinefelter will be at 4 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 22, 2003 at the First United Presbyterian Church, Ashland. Officiating will be Pastor Scott Dalgarno and Bunny Oliver of the First Presbyterian Church. Mrs. Klinefelter, 56, of Ashland, died Tuesday, Feb. 18, 2003 at the Ashland Community Hospital. She was born Dec. 7, 1946 at Zanesville, Ohio, the daughter of Doris and Ralph McCabe. She lived in San Jose, Calif. and the Los Angeles, Calif. area where she worked as a bookkeeper in the banking industry. She moved to Ashland in 1993. Surviving are: her mother and step father Doris and Fred Binnewies of Ashland; three daughters, Trina Jacob of Medford, Laura Klinefelter and Erica Toland both of Beaverton, Ore.; one brother, David McCabe of Ashland; one sister, Carol McAndrew of Woodburn, Ore.; and six grandchildren.
